Wrestlers use headgear that offers them protection during their wrestling matches. However, most people go by its name and think that headgear is used to protect the heads of wrestlers. Actually, headgear is used to cover their ears and chins. It is strapped at the back and on the top of a wearer’s head. There is also a strap to put under the chin. Since headgear majorly protects a player’s ears, it is also sometimes called an ear guard. Most of these headgears are made of Velcro or durable plastic.
The main reason for wearing headgear to cover one’s ears is to avoid any long-term injuries that can be caused by the blows received during wrestling matches. If a wrestler keeps being knocked on his/her ears by constant blows during a match, then his/her blood vessels can be affected badly. There are sophisticated blood vessels in human ears that can even burst due to constant bashing. Sometimes, a player does not face external bleeding after being beaten on ears. In such cases, one may develop extremely painful blood sacs. These can even cause ear disfiguration on a temporary or permanent basis. Thus, a wrestler may face this painful condition called cauliflower ear.
If this condition develops, then it is again a painful procedure to drain out the blood from one’s ear. A suffering player might have to see a doctor to treat this condition. Thus, one needs to be very careful regarding the protection of ears during a wrestling match. Headgear is the best way to offer protection to a wrestler’s ears and blood vessels. That is why it is mandatory for wrestlers to wear headgear in most of the professional wrestling matches. Such headgear is quite important for avoiding serious injuries that can occur during professional matches between wrestlers. Therefore, wrestlers seriously practice wearing protective headgear.
